Amazon Publishing continues to venture deeper into the belly of the geek, expanding beyond its fan fiction platform with the new Jet City Comics imprint.
The graphic novel-heavy brand launched today with Symposium #1 (cover image below), the first comic born out of The Foreworld Saga series created by Neal Stephenson and company. New installments will arrive monthly, and will be published as a series of graphic novels in 2014.
Coming in October, however, is an original digital comic adaptation of George R.R. Martin's story Meathouse Man. The single-copy comic is being illustrated by artist Raya Golden "from one of my strangest, darkest, and most twisted short stories" Martin said.
November will bring a re-release of The Hedge Knight, a prequel to Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, as a collected graphic novel in print and digital formats. The sequel, The Sworn Sword, is scheduled for 2014.
"My fans have been clamoring for the return of Dunk & Egg ever since the graphic novels of 'The Hedge Knight' and 'The Sworn Sword' went out of print several years ago, so I am delighted to announce that Jet City Comics is bringing them back — newly formatted for digital readers, and in paper for those who still prefer the traditional formats," Martin said in a statement.
Meanwhile, comics veterans Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and illustrator Jimmy Broxton will adapt Hugh Howey's bestselling dystopian novel Wool, bringing the remnants of humanity back to life. The Kindle Serial will be released as six individual comics issues starting in October, followed by a graphic novel in 2014.

"Millions of fans have read and loved their novels, and with Jet City we look forward to opening these iconic worlds to new audiences. … I'm looking forward to the response from comics readers and fans."
