Posted on 20:53 by Unknown

The Schumacher SpeedCharge SC-10030A, which wins our TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award, is an easy-to-use battery charger. Equipped with a computer-controlled micro processing unit, this battery charger is also one of the fastest and most efficient models on the shelves, making it smarter than most Smart Batteries available today.

The SpeedCharge SC-10030A can handle and recharge almost every sort of 6- or 12-volt battery type including, Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) and gel cell batteries. You just have to select the AGM or gel battery option. Compatible with any vehicle used for travel or recreation, you can hook up the dependable charger to tractors, motorcycles, snowmobiles, cars, trucks, SUVs, RVs and boats. It also includes a deep-cycle battery option for any vehicle that uses a deep-cycle battery instead of a normal starter battery.

Along with its compatibility with most vehicles, this battery charger also gives you the option of a slow, 2-amp charge or a fast charge between 12 and 30 amps. Need to maintain a smaller battery, say in a scooter or moped? Just choose the 2-amp, trickle-charge option and watch it slowly and steadily recharge your battery without overcharging and damaging it. Likewise, if you need a quick charge or need to keep a larger battery in peak condition, go ahead and choose the faster charge option to get the job done. The average charge time of a battery connected to the SpeedCharge is anywhere from one to five and a half hours, depending on how much, if any, juice is still remaining at the beginning of the charge.

As we mentioned earlier, the SC-10030A is not only a speed charger, but also a smart charger as well. Its fully automatic micro processing unit and automatic multi-stage charging system help this battery charger get the job done quickly and efficiently as well. Monitoring a battery from the second its connected to it, the SC-1003A goes through a series of charge phases including desulphation, absorption, bulk charging, float mode and more as it pushes for quicker charge times and a lessened probability of damage to the battery due to overcharging. Speaking of overcharging, a built-in battery tester is also available that displays the amount or percentage of charge the battery connected to the charger possesses.

The SpeedCharge SC-10030A by Schumacher also includes a 100-amp jumpstart option for those emergencies where a quick start is needed. Just select the engine start feature if you or someone else is ever in need of a quick jump. Although it does not possess the same jumpstart capability as some other battery chargers, it can still get the job done without strain and is more than capable of doing the dirty work when asked to do so.

Built not only to function efficiently but also to do so for a long time, the Schumacher SpeedCharge SC-100030A automatic battery charger includes several features that keeps it healthy and functioning at an optimal level, even after years of use. One of these features includes a cooling fan that is controlled by the chargers microprocessing unit, making it nice for owners of the SC-10030A who wont have to worry about the unit overheating and overworking itself. According to the owners manual, the fan will start and stop on its own depending on the units need for a little cool down. The fan does not operate if the charger is set to Tester mode.

Two cord wrap cleats can also be found in the rear of the unit for storing the jumper cables and clamps. This feature helps keep the insulated cables neatly tucked away while not in use and out of harms way. In addition, this battery charger also includes a carrying case in case it happens to take a tumble. Theres also a five-year warranty from the date of purchase that covers anything on the SC-10030A that stops working properly.

Being diminutive in size also has its perks for the SpeedCharge SC-10030A. Weighing just more than 14 pounds with dimensions that include a height of 5 inches, a width of 10 inches and a length of 9 inches, this battery charger can easily be transported around and serves as no more than a light workout.

Due to its compact size, the SC-10030A can also be stored easily on the go, whether its under the seat of your scooter or motorcycle or even inside your car in a storage compartment. The unit also includes a built-in handle for easy carrying and handling, which is a common feature found in most portable battery chargers.

If you are not familiar with the functions and controls of a battery charger, the Schumacher SpeedCharge SC-10030A tries to make things as easy as possible with its digital display and push-button system. The digital display mode allows you to see how much charge is in the battery clipped to the charger, and you can see the voltage youve selected to jump or charge a battery with and more. Button controls include the ability to set the SC-10030A to regular, deep-cycle, AGM or gel-cell battery charging, as well as the ability to set the maximum charge rate at slow, fast or engine start.

Also, for extra convenience, this battery charger also turns-off automatically once a battery is fully charged, preventing not only overcharging the battery but also protecting it from overheating once the charge job is completed. A detailed instruction manual is included for you to glance over and refer to as you operate the SC-10030A.

Every battery charger has its flaws if you get nitpicky enough. Although the SpeedCharge SC-10030A is perfectly safe to use and operate, it could do with a few extra safety features. Most battery chargers include a lighted reverse-polarity warning to alert you when it detects an improper connection of the jumper cables to the batterys terminals. No such feature can be found on the SC-10030A. You have to remember to properly position and place the jumper cable clamps on their corresponding terminals the red positive clamp to the positive terminal, and the black negative clamp to the negative terminal before using the unit to avoid damaging the battery.

Some car battery chargers also include a work light for night jobs, but you wont find one on the SC-10030A. The SpeedCharge does include all the basic safety measures found on battery chargers, including insulated and spark-resistant cable clamps.

Outside of a few missing safety features, you really cant go wrong by purchasing the Schumacher SpeedCharge SC-10030A automatic battery charger. If youre looking for an all-around strong performance from your battery charger, this is the product you want to get your hands on.
