Summer vacation just got a little more kid-friendly, with the introduction of Comcast Xfinity TV's "Summer of Kids" program.
Ahead of the July 4 holiday weekend, the company is highlighting its kid-friendly on-demand titles, but is also adding a few parental controls to make sure junior doesn't tune in to Magic Mike or a gory episode of True Blood.
Comcast has expanded its partnership with Common Sense Media to integrate the organization's TV show and movie ratings into the kids section of Xfinity.com. This parental control microsite will let parents manage what kids are watching across various platforms — on TV, on the Web, and on mobile devices.
The Common Sense Media partnership will also allow users to filter On Demand content by age group and most-watched, offering "ultimate peace of mind" for parents, said Comcast's vice president of programming, Maggie Suniewick.
The Xfinity TV Player App for iOS also got a boost, now featuring a dedicated family and kids content section, making it easier to find the best children's programming while on a long car ride or at the beach.
That peace of mind comes along with more than 1,000 downloadable kids TV shows and films, including Finding Nemo, The Muppets, Brave, Freaky Friday, and more.
Additionally, Comcast is offering free Wi-Fi hotspots across the country from July 15 to July 31, making on-the-go viewing even easier.
"Xfinity On Demand brings families a huge selection of the best kids content to enjoy safely together," Suniewick said in a statement. "As we head into the busy summer travel season, Summer of Kids provides them with even more content and more ways to watch while on the go."
