When you are looking into which car headrest mount to get the Scosche backStage offers a different way of affixing the case. While it is easy to attach the Velcro straps to any headrest, we would prefer a design that endures better over time. Velcro doesn't last as long as some of the other fasteners since it's less durable. We are pleased that it works with both iPad generations, but it doesn't offer support for other tablets. While this product works well, it doesn't let you adjust the viewing angle. So if you have children they might have a hard time seeing the screen because you can't angle it down.
The Scocsche backStage is a case that covers all of the edges. The strap in the back wraps around the headrest posts. This means the headrest can't be flush with the seat, so hopefully the person sitting in the front seat is comfortable with it being up. To keep the iPad in the case they have a closure that goes over the top of the case and uses Velcro. This is easy to use, but Velcro gets dirty and loses its adhesive properties eventually. We would have liked to have something that is a little more lasting.
The viewing angle has some limitations. Because the design is so simplistic, there is no joint to tilt or angle the iPad. Where you attach it is where it will stay. This iPad car mount keeps your screen in landscape orientation. There is no option for rotating to portrait mode. This isn't a problem if all you want to do is watch movies. The other thing to keep in mind is that since you can't tilt it down your shorter passengers might not be able to see the screen.
Since not every iPad headrest mount is made for both versions of the iPad, we were pleased to see that the Scosche backStage is compatible with both. The way the protective case is set up, you can still use it even if your iPad is in another case. While we feel that this is important, we would have liked to see some options when it came to supporting other devices as well. This isn't a big concern if you only have an iPad, but if you have other devices that you would like to share in the backseat as well, then you are out of luck.
The Scosche backStage offers a few unique features. The way that the iPad headrest mount attaches is easy and versatile. It uses Velcro to wrap around the headrest posts themselves. You are limited to the landscape orientation and you can't tilt the screen once it is attached. The headrest also has to be slid up about an inch to mount your device. It works well with the iPad, but you won't be able to use it with any other tablets. Overall, this product lacks too many features for us to recommend it over the other products in our lineup.
