NPower Automatic 457809

Posted on 17:22 by Unknown

Good at everything it does and unbeatably reliable, the NPower Automatic 457809 battery charger earns our TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award. We admit it wont dazzle you with its simple looks and average feature set, but its affordable and will get the job done right every time which is, after all, what you need most from a battery charger.

Compatible with any 12-volt regular battery as well as absorbed glass mat and gel cell battery types, this portable battery charger can charge and jump most motorcycle, car, and boat batteries out there, excluding machines with deep cell cycle battery types. Equipped with four different charging options that range from a 2-amp maintainer mode to a 25-amp fast charge mode, the NPower 457809 can tackle any battery, whether small or large. On average, the NPower 457809 can charge a dead battery in two to 10 hours depending on the charge rate and other factors.

Alongside the various charge rate options that this battery charger affords you, a practical engine start feature is available as well for those times when a quick jump is needed. By pushing this button on the display panel, youll automatically get 75 amps of start-up power. Although the engine start feature is definitely nice to have around, it is important to note that 75 amps is pretty light in comparison to the jump power of most battery charger models. Nevertheless, the option is available for you to take advantage of.

The NPower 457809 battery charger includes a cooling fan that automatically turns on and off on when the unit is a little overheated, and off when the temperature of the 12-volt charger is just fine. Alongside its cooling fan, this battery charger also includes a carrying case to ensure its protection when not being used or while being carried around.  A warranty is included with the purchase of this battery charger, although it only runs up to 12 months after the date of purchase a somewhat shorter timeframe when compared to the normal two to five years that most battery charger manufactures promise if their product becomes defective.

Compact and weighing a very slight 5.3 pounds, the NPower 457809 shouldnt give anyone difficulties when it comes to storing the unit or carrying it around. The only minor issue of concern is the exclusion of a handle, an issue that may annoy certain customers who figure every quality battery charger should come with a built-in handle. But overall, the size of this battery charger, or lack thereof, should counteract the fact that it doesnt have a handle.

Included on the display panel of this portable battery charger, when in use, are lighted indicators of the batterys charge level, the charge rate which the user has chosen, a completion of charge indication and more. The battery level indicator is pretty basic and will show one of three display options: low battery, 60-90 current battery level, or full battery. As noted before, there is nothing too high-tech about this battery charger, but it tells you what you need to know. In terms of choosing your charge rate and engine-start option, the display panel includes push-button and switch controls.

Perhaps the best feature of the NPower 457809 is its ability to turn off automatically once a charge job is completed. You do not have to manually turn off the charger once a job is complete. The unit itself will ensure that it does not overcharge a battery or overheat itself.

Alongside its insulated and spark resistant clamps, this battery charger also includes a reverse polarity LED indicator which automatically lights when it spots a cable that has been hooked to the wrong battery terminal (i.e., positive clamp to negative battery terminal, and vice versa). This feature can save many novice and inexperienced users the headache of permanently damaging their battery due to an improper charge or jump connection.

You cant really go wrong with the NPower Automatic 457809 battery charger. Its not the most powerful charger and it and doesnt include such accessories as a work light for night jobs or even a built-in handle for that matter, but all the basic and essential features of a typical 12-volt battery charger are there. If workman-like and affordable fit the type of portable battery charger on your wish list, this is one unit worth considering.
