Once you develop a habit of scanning and organizing your incoming papers, you will eventually reclaim your desk. If you feel overwhelmed by work, try removing the visual cue of piles of papers. Your work will still be there, but it won't dominate your desk or your thoughts.
2. Focus on the Positive
Bad news is easy to find. If you open a newspaper or watch your local news station, you're sure to find plenty of depressing stories. Walking makes a great break because it isn't as strenuous as going to the gym, but it still raises your heart rate and allows your muscles to move.
4. Socialize
Whether you take coworkers with you on your walks or share your positive thoughts with your friends, it's important to have social support. If you aren't comfortable talking to coworkers or family about your workplace stress, you need to meet someone who will listen. However, the best stress relief comes from being in positive environments. Therefore, surround yourself with positive energy. You can find positive social arenas at churches, book clubs or volunteer opportunities. You'll meet new people and give yourself a chance to be you, unburdened by worry.
5. Make Time for Fun
Some people spend too much time trying to work hard and impress their bosses and forget how to impress themselves. Work and home are two separate words, and they need to remain separate in all important aspects. When you leave your place of work, don't bring your work home with you. Instead, play with your kids or pets, read a book or watch a comedy show, or go dancing. Workplace stress is not fun, so it makes sense that the best way to get rid of it is with fun at home.
