Associated Equipment 9090

Posted on 15:10 by Unknown

Pound for pound, the Associated Equipment 9090 can almost go a full 12 rounds with the best battery chargers, as its perks include a bevy of charge and jump options as well as a reverse-polarity warning signal and automatic turn-off feature once a charging job is done. That said, it does lack some power and a few features that would help it become a complete package.

The AE 9090 comes with a slew of charge and jump options that will delight users. It can handle any regular, deep-cycle and 6- or 12-volt battery put in front of it including most motorcycle, car and boat batteries. Interestingly enough, AE did not make this model compatible with automated glass mat (AGM) batteries or gel cell batteries. This car battery charger is also equipped with a slow charge rate option of 2 amps, and a fast charge rate option of 12 amps, allowing you to choose which setting you prefer, depending on the size of the battery you are charging.  A battery tester and gauge are also located on the front of the unit and helps in determining the amount of time and charge percentage of a battery.

Outside of its inability to charge or jump AGM and gel cell batteries, the only other complaint we have with this battery chargers features is its lack of true power. Although 100 amps of jump- starting power is sufficient, a fast charge rate of 12 amps is quite average, if not weak, compared to the charge rate found on other portable battery chargers.

As mentioned above, an engine start option is available that allows you to jump-start a battery with 100 amps of power when the occasion calls for it. Although 100 amps of power isn't by any means mind-boggling, it should be enough to get any job done.

If there is a significant weakness with the AE 9090, it comes in the wear-and-tear factor on this unit. Its not equipped with a carrying case or a cooling fan, so this battery charger may be prone to abuse from its surroundings and overheating although it does automatically turn-off when a charge job is complete. Luckily, there is a two-year warranty on the model if parts do become defective or break.

Included with this 13-pound battery charger is the all-important built-in handle for ease in carrying. Surprisingly enough, it measures 20 inches tall but only spans 10.5 inches in width and stretches 11 inches in length. The AE 9090 is not a heavy-duty battery charger and shouldnt cause anyone troubles in terms of its portability.

Equipped with an automatic on-off circuit, you will not have to sit around and wait for this battery charger to complete its task before turning it off. The display panel is also designed with several easy-to-use switches, including a select charge setting switch, a select charge or jump function switch and a select battery type switch. Indicator lights on the front will also inform you when charging is complete and when an issue with reverse polarity has occurred due to an improper connection of the jumper cables to the batterys terminals ( such as negative clamp to positive terminal, and vice versa).

As mentioned above, a reverse-polarity warning and indicator is included on this model, making life a whole lot easier for inexperienced users who may switch a connection from time to time. This battery charger also carries with it a set of insulated and spark-resistant jumper cables.

Although the Associated Equipment 9090 does come with a few quirks and durability questions, this battery charger does live up to its value and is a safe choice if you decide to purchase it. Then again, there are three products ahead of it on our lineup all of which come at a cheaper price.
