The Best Time to Redesign Your Home

Posted on 12:57 by Unknown

The best thing about being a homeowner is the freedom to design your living space. Its also the hardest thing about being a homeowner there are always projects to do, upkeep to maintain and gutters to clean. And with everything getting in the way, the way you design your home can take a position on the backburner. But here are a few tips on when its time to redesign your home, and where to start.

Youre a new homebuyer

Now that the honeymoon period has worn off and youre beginning to see the cracks and broken floorboards, buyers remorse is creeping up on the horizon. New homes are perfect for redesigns since you havent yet settled in and your furniture hasnt arrived to get in the way. New paint, window treatments and shelving are all excellent upgrades to make in the first months of owning a new home.

Youve refinanced

With that monthly mortgage payment knocked down by a few hundred dollars, you can spend that extra cash on some much-needed fix-ups, appliance replacements or furniture upgrades.

Youre considering selling

Unless youre going for that lived-in look, potential buyers arent going to jump at the idea of placing a down payment to buy a house with cracked paint, faulty doorframes or catawampus furniture. Before you call the realtor, its time to do some redecorating.

Similarly, homebuyers arent snatching up boring old homes like they used to even if theyve been well-maintained so your chances of a complete upgrade into a new home are slimmer than they used to be if your current house is showing signs of aging. You can give your home a facelift by making a few improvements right away.

Youre square with the bank

If youve paid off that 30-year mortgage, now is the time to celebrate by beginning all those projects youve been putting off. Now that you dont have to worry about that mortgage payment, you can spend a little more on a redesign.

Now
Theres no time like the present. Its easy to procrastinate on home projects there always seems to be something else more important to do. Remember, this is your home, your castle. With powerful home interior design software available, redesigning your living space has never been easier.

Where to start

Kitchens are usually the best place to kick off a home makeover, since theyre one of the first places potential buyers look, and theyre some of the easiest upgrades to make. You can begin by replacing all those old power-hungry appliances with brand new, stainless steel, eco-friendly ones. Replacing cabinetry with improved materials and designs is also a great way to liven up the cooking area.

Living room upgrades can begin with new furniture and wall colors. Considering how the space will be used is a great starting-off point when thinking of a redesign. Does the living room need to be kid-friendly, with enough play area to get rowdy? Or will it be a bachelor pad worthy of Super Bowl parties? Color choices are also important: Pull color schemes from fabrics and furniture you want to keep and youll be able to redesign with coordination.
