It doesn't always have to have to be at the library or the kitchen table, but find a place where you won't be disturbed by loud noises, pets, people and smells. If you need to, let those around you know you need quiet to study, and be sure to return the favor when they need to study as well.
Never underestimate a good night's rest! When you are tired, you will find it hard to focus and comprehend anything you try to study. Sleep is a student's best friend, and approaching algebra problems when you are mentally awake and fresh helps your focus immensely. Try to get at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep if possible. Also, avoid living off energy drinks and caffeine; you'll just crash even harder and hurt your body in the long run.
Even if you have your algebra teacher on speed dial, it's not realistic to be able to call them at 2 a.m. and expect them to help. Using algebra software lets you study whenever you want and gives you the help you need to succeed. Some programs focus on teaching you concepts, just like being in class, and others are problem solvers that let you enter your own homework problems and tutor you on how to solve them.
If you find your blood pressure rising because you don't get a concept or can't seem to remember when to use the Pythagorean Theorem, get up! Stretch, take a short walk, splash water on your face and grab a snack or cold drink. If you are too uptight, you're not going to be able to focus and you'll begin to believe your doubts. Relaxing is healthy. Just don't forget to get back to work.

Learning how to solve math problems takes time. We all have subjects we pick up faster than others, so don't get down on yourself if you are taking longer than you think you should. Don't compare yourself to anyone else when it comes to algebra; it's not fair to them or yourself. Being positive can be hard work, but if you keep trying and never give up you will improve.
