Apple has surprisingly launched a new version of its iPod Touch MP3 player, which removes some of the features found in its more expensive 5th Generation iPod Touch in order to drop the price from £249 to £199.
The new Touch will only be available in black or white, rather than its more expensive sibling which comes in a range of colours. It also lacks a rear-facing camera, which has been jettisoned along with the loop for attaching an official Apple lanyard.
It replaces the 16GB 4th Generation iPod Touch, which Apple kept on sale after launching its latest MP3 players in September last year. As a result, the new model is only available with 16GB of internal memory - if you need more capacity, you'll have to pay extra for the current 5th generation Touch, which can be picked up in 32GB or 64GB versions.
In all other respects, the two devices are very similar - both have Apple's 4in, "Retina-class" 1136x640 resolution display and are powered by an A5 processor. The new model also includes a 1.2-megapixel front-facing Facetime camera, a pair of Apple's redesigned EarPod in-ear headphones and a Lightning adaptor.
The new iPod Touch is available to buy now from The official Apple store, at £199 for 16Gb of storage.
